Few bikes inspire the kind of devotion a Brompton does. Owners name them, customise them and carry them into restaurants, and for decades the iconic folding bike has gone everywhere from city commutes to far-flung adventures. Now Brompton is bringing its full range to OutdoorXpo, giving visitors the chance to test ride everything from the classic C Line to the go-anywhere G Line and its electric models. We sat down with the Magdelana from Brompton to talk community, the future of cycling and why a folding bike might be the most versatile piece of kit you haven't considered yet.

If you had to sum up what Brompton stands for in one sentence, what would it be?

Brompton is about creating freedom, joy and possibility through a bike that transforms the way people move through the world.

Brompton riders are famously devoted. You have owners who customise their bikes, name them, carry them into restaurants. How do you nurture that level of attachment without it becoming something the brand controls rather than something it simply earns?

We never set out to create a cult following, and that's probably why it feels so genuine. The attachment people have to their Bromptons comes from how the bike fits into their lives and the freedom it gives them. Our role is really to create the conditions for that community to thrive.

We do that through events, rides and experiences that bring people together, and by collaborating with a wonderfully diverse mix of creatives, adventurers and innovators who keep inspiring new ways to use a Brompton. But ultimately, we try not to over-engineer it. The best ideas and stories often come from our riders themselves, from extraordinary adventures to the small moments of freedom and joy they discover in everyday life.

Events like the Brompton World Championship are a perfect example. They're a celebration of creativity, individuality and fun, and those things exist because of the community, not because they're dictated by the brand. In many ways, our community has become one of our strongest brand assets, and that's something we've earned by staying true to who we are.

Where do you see the cycling industry heading over the next five years, and where does Brompton sit within that shift?

The industry has been through a period of significant change, and I think the brands that will thrive are those with a clear purpose, strong fundamentals and a genuine connection with their customers.

Looking ahead, we'll continue to see growth in electric bikes, increased demand for high-quality products that are built to last, and a greater focus on getting more people out of cars and onto bikes for everyday journeys.

I also think we're seeing a shift from people wanting multiple specialist products towards solutions that are versatile and fit seamlessly into real life.

More broadly, I hope the industry continues to collaborate rather than compete when it comes to encouraging cycling uptake. The biggest opportunity isn't convincing existing cyclists to buy another bike, it's helping more people discover the benefits of cycling in the first place.

Why is exhibiting at OutdoorXpo important to Brompton and what would you say to an outdoor enthusiast who has never considered a folding bike as part of their kit?

OutdoorXpo brings together people with a shared sense of curiosity, and that's exactly the kind of audience we love speaking to. Some visitors will know Brompton well, while others may never have considered a folding bike before, so it's a fantastic opportunity to introduce the brand to new people.

For anyone who thinks a folding bike isn't for them, we'd encourage them to take a closer look. People have taken Bromptons on extraordinary adventures for decades, but with the introduction of G Line we've expanded what's possible even further.

The beauty of a Brompton is that it's always there when you need it. It fits in the boot of a car, a campervan, a boat or on a train, making it incredibly easy to combine cycling with other outdoor activities.

What can visitors expect to see, try or experience on the Brompton stand at OutdoorXpo?

Whether you're completely new to Brompton or a long-time fan, there'll be plenty to explore. Visitors will be able to see and test ride our full range, from the iconic C Line and lightweight T Line through to the versatile G Line, as well as our electric models.

We'll also be showcasing our luggage collection, accessories and customisation options.

Most importantly, visitors will be able to experience for themselves what makes a Brompton different. For many people, the moment they see the fold or take their first ride is when it all clicks.
